Buying a home with a notary

When you buy a home in the Netherlands, ownership passes only when the notary executes the transfer deed. If you take out a mortgage, the notary also executes the mortgage deed. We arrange the notary and an interpreter, and explain every step in your language.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need an interpreter?

Notarial deeds are drawn up in Dutch. If a party does not understand the language of the deed well enough, Dutch law requires an interpreter to attend the signing, preferably a sworn translator.

Who holds the purchase money?

The notary receives the money on a special third-party account and pays the seller only after the transfer has been registered. This protects both buyer and seller.

Can I choose the notary myself?

In most cases the buyer chooses the notary. We help you choose a notary who works with clients who do not speak Dutch.
